Nuggets of Wisdom from Niyc:

"Beautiful flowers blossom in adversity."

"My intention is that I bring together the science side of things and the spirituality side of things, as well as my personal experience and my professional expertise to really give the readers something that they can practically do everyday."

"Meditation is something that allowed me to connect with myself and the highest version of myself."

"I managed to find gratitude for the process and managed to find the gratitude for the fact that, one day, I knew that I would be able to share this story and help other people. Even the bad things that happen to us, we have to find gratitude on some level."

"Happiness is about raising your awareness, showing up in everything you do."

Some of Niyc's Favorite Things:

"My morning ritual/nurturing practice: gratitude rampage, moving into this place of gratitude and abundance, meditation, moving my body & energy around to feel empowered, visualization (standing on stage, seeing flowers), written affirmations, speak out loud my goal… abracadabra… I create what I speak. That which I speak, I create. It’s all about everything we say and bringing that thing into our reality. That is a practice that has given me so much."

Favorite kitchen gadget: Garlic Press

Niyc's Favorite Books: "Mind Gym, which is a collection of short, succinct tips about how you can develop a stronger mindset."

Best advice received: "To be able to wake up in the morning and just be yourself."

Niyc's Happiness Formula:

"Happiness is a combination of gratitude, awareness and growth -being grateful for what you have, heightening your awareness and also ensuring that everyday you are doing something that allows you to feel accomplished. And you actually give yourself credit for the things you do as well."

A Challenge from Niyc:

"Every night before bed do you 'DONE list' and reflect on the service you've given."

Have you ever woken up exhausted, grumpy or unready to face the day? In this Happy Bit I give you 3 strategies that will boost your mood, energy and focus on those really tough mornings.

Aug 21, 2017

Mary Hyatt was drowning in unhappiness after marrying very young and having no idea who she was; after years of numbing her unhappiness with food, Mary found herself 70 pounds overweight and needing to make a change. She decided to embark on a journey to find herself and to stop playing small; in the process she let go of the weight and the unhealthy marriage and today Mary is a strong advocate of living FULLY ALIVE through being authentic, loving yourself and loving your body.

Mary Hyatt is on a quest to feel alive and to live a life full of gratitude, joy, authenticity, and abundance in body, mind and soul. Mary believes that every person has the ability to create the life that they love. She lives in the heart of Nashville and her days are spent juggling the roles of holistic lifestyle advocate as a Presidential Diamond wellness advocate with do TERRA essential oils, and personal life and business coach. She helps her clients wake up, find their voice and become fully alive. You can join Mary every Wednesday at 1 PM CST on her Facebook LIVE show where she dives into raw topics and helps her audience fall back in love with themselves and believe in their potential. You can explore more at www.maryhyatt.com

vibranthappyfacebook

Nuggets of Wisdom from Mary:

“Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it, no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace." ~Frederick Buechner

"I love that the emphasis on the touching, smelling, and really getting into the holy and hidden heart of it. That is it."

"I can remember thinking to myself, there has to be more to life than this. Surely, being completely asleep for life, being numb, just almost sleepwalking through life - Surely there has to be something else that would make life worth more living."

Some of Mary's Favorite Things:

"Staying teachable. I’m always asking for feedback, I’m constantly learning. The minute that I think I know it all, my career is going to be dead. I want to see always how I can make things better. I get excited to hear about new perspectives, about new ways of seeing things because ultimately, my lens is really limited. I am seeing it only through my own eyes so I think a habit would be asking for feedback and continuously learning. "

Favorite kitchen gadget: "Garlic Press"

Beth's Favorite Books: "Loveability by Robert Holden"

Best advice received: "From my mom: when anything is going wrong, 'What does this make possible?'"

Mary's Happiness Formula:

"I am happiest when I am being authentic + telling my truth + staying in the present. Part of living fully alive is experiencing life in 3D, which means that you are willing to be present for whatever is showing up in this exact moment. I give myself permission to celebrate, to be in that excitement and really stay in it, and asking myself, 'What is asking for my highest attention right now?'"

"Depression and anxiety are escaping the present. When we can find our true happiness, the ability to connect with life, just in this present moment - that truly is what we have - I better show up. I better be all here because this might be my last breath."

"Part of happiness is being able to show up for what’s happening right now. Being present truly contributes to our ability to have happiness and fulfillment."

A Challenge from Mary:

"Slow down in this moment, take a couple deep breaths, in through the nose, out through the mouth, in through the nose, out through the mouth. What is asking for my highest attention right now? What needs some loving today?"

Happy Bit: A Parenting Mantra to Create Happier Kids (and a Happier Mama)

Parents and kids seem to do a lifelong dance - at least for the first 18 years - between control and freedom. In this Happy Bit I share a parenting mantra I created that helps me focus less on control (and criticism) and more on the positives like love, warmth, humor and praise.

The Mantra:

My only parenting tools are love, hugs, warmth, humor and compliments.

Rather than always seeking the "grand gesture" or the next "big thing," Anne Bogel, blogger at Modern Mrs. Darcy and host of the What Should I Read Next? This podcast reminds us that small and steady steps are where the magic happens.

Anne Bogel is the creator of the popular blog Modern Mrs Darcy and the podcast What Should I Read Next?. Nuggets of Wisdom from Anne:

"There are so many things out there that we can make and create."

"Life moves on. Everything’s a stage. You have plenty of time."

"This is a stage. Everything moves in stages. Nothing lasts forever, for better or for worse."

"Something I have learned is how important timing is. That’s not just what you’re hoping to do but also when you are going to be able to do it. Life moves in stages and it won’t stay the same way forever. Things constantly change."

"I hate it when people say: “I don’t have time!”"

Some of Anne's Favorite Things:

Favorite Quote: "Emily Dickinson: 'I dwell in impossibility.' It means excitement and enthusiasm and potential. Anything is possible."

Personal Habit: "Walking the dog with no headphones… motion and movement and fresh air."

Easy meal: Mexican Beef verde from Jessica Fisher’s cookbook, Not Your Mother’s Freezer Meals: Chuck roast - chili powder and oregano - salsa verde - with guac, pico, cheese…

Favorite kitchen gadget: Lemon Squeezer

Ann’s Favorite Books: You Learn by Living by Eleanor Roosevelt

Best advice received: "Don’t underestimate the importance of small steps."

Anne's Happiness Formula:

"It’s about being peaceful, happy and light in body and spirit. And being free from anxiety of worry and understanding, love."

"A good life is fresh, solid and free, new, vibrant, grounded, safe."

A Challenge from Anne:

"Take a walk without your earbuds or sit on the porch without a book and think and just be."

Journaling can be a powerful way to see the big picture of your life, to notice the trajectory you're on and to make needed adjustments. Whether you prefer gratitude journaling, writing your goals and intentions or recording a "diary" of your day, journaling is so helpful. One of the most powerful forms of journaling is vision journaling, which is writing down what you WANT your life to look like as if it's already the REALITY. Vision journaling not only creates energy, motivation and focus, but new research would suggest it is probably building new neural pathways in your brain, making it more likely you'll choose behaviors in line with your vision and goals. In this episode I tell you exactly how to do it.

Ever wished you could work less so you could live more? After an incident with her son’s childcare provider, Jocelyn Sams realized she was giving too much control of her life to other people. She and her husband Shane decided to give up teaching and create an online business so they could have the flexibility and freedom they needed to spend more time with their kids - all while working only 10-15 hours/week. In this episode Jocelyn shares exactly how they did it.

Today’s guest is Jocelyn Sams, part of the dynamic duo behind FlippedLifestyle.com. Jocelyn and her husband Shane are former school teachers. After years of bad bosses, job losses, and frustration at work, they started an online business. That business made it possible to quit their jobs, spend more time with family and earn millions in passive income online - all while working only 10-15 hours per week! Now, they are helping other families do the same by connecting with people through their Flipped Lifestyle podcast, website and inside their Flip Your Life community. Nuggets of Wisdom from Joceyln:

"We can't let other people run our lives anymore."

"He said we were going to start an online business, we were going to build passive income streams and we were going to quit our jobs. I thought he was crazy at the time, but little did I know, we would do just that."

"When you do as you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten."

Some of Joceyln's Favorite Things:

Personal habit: "I calendar everything."

Easy meal: Chicken Lettuce Wraps (P.F. Changs copycat)

Favorite kitchen gadget: Cuisinart Electric Teakettle

Joceyln's Favorite Books: Profit First by Mike Michalowicz

Best advice received: "Take action and make things happen."

Joceyln's Happiness Formula:

"Take control of my time + prioritize the things that are really important in life + helping others find the same type of freedom we have found."

A Challenge from Joceyln:

"Put everything on a calendar, starting with your non-negotiables like work, sleep, eating dinner, eating lunch.... Once you get those things on there, move on to the things you want to do - things like working on a business, spending more time with your children - whatever it is you want to do, calendar those in after your non-negotiables. This will help you see where you're really spending time versus where you WANT to spend time."

vibranthappyfacebook

Nuggets of Wisdom from Tsh:

“Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am.”  - Parker Palmer

"Vocation: The word means calling. it's the idea of 'What you are made to do and what your life speaks.'

"Listen to your life because it says something!"

"What made [living in Turkey] truly great were a lot of these smaller life lessons and family togetherness and even the hard stuff that we pushed through to make us a better people and a better family unit."

"Home is where you know and are known. For me, that equals people. Home equals a tangible place. I think there's something important about it being in a place."

"There's this foundational idea that you have to know: your vocation is how your life speaks."

"We would rather put our money toward experiences over things."

"Simple living for me is living holistically with your life's purpose."

"Your life's purpose is your vocation."

Some of Tsh's Favorite Things:

Personal habit: " Bullet journaling. It's this way of journaling your day that just keeps your thoughts in a more organized fashion. I feel so much more in control of my time."

Easy meal: "I love chicken tortilla soup in slow cooker from Pioneer Woman." (get the recipe here)

Favorite kitchen gadget: "Ice cream maker"

Tsh's Favorite Books: "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver"

Best advice received: "Taking action and making things happen." (from Tsh's husband)

Tsh's Happiness Formula:

"Travel is a huge part of my happiness. I am more who I am whenever I spend time traveling. And yet, it is coupled with staying home a lot. It's a combination of exploring the world and being at home - embracing where I am, getting to know my neighbors, spending time in my community and getting involved. It is a blend of being a citizen of the world and a citizen of my community."

A Challenge from Tsh:

"Plan a trip on the horizon -even if that means a day trip into the closest city where you live. If you haven't planned a trip in a long time, plan something where you actually leave your house and you go do something pretty different from what you normally do. You might want to explore some small town nearby that you have always wanted to do. You might check out a museum. You might try out a new restaurant, or you could actually get on a plane and or get on a website, see what cheap flights in your area are and go do something like that. I think so much of our life is routine, which is good, but we need to appreciate that routine whenever we shake it up a bit and interact with the outside world around us."

Growing up with dysfunction and a broken home, Salena Knight set out completely on her own at age 15, and by her early twenties owned several properties, and today she owns her own business. Salena shares some powerful thoughts on letting go of "victim thinking" and choosing the life you want. A must-listen episode!

Salena Knight is retail strategist who helps independent retailers to grow their business so they can have personal and financial freedom. She lives in Sydney Australia with her husband, daughter and rescue greyhound. In her free time she likes to build things, cook and spend time outdoors.

vibranthappyfacebook

Nuggets of Wisdom from Salena:

"Laugh at yourself because if you don't, someone else will laugh at you. Laugh at the things that happened because it hurts more when someone laughs at you, than when you laugh about what happened to yourself."

"Just don't take everything seriously; otherwise, you'll end up getting hurt by what other people think about you."

"All I wanted to do was to prove to the world that coming from a broken family doesn't mean that you have to be a broken person."

"You have the choice to make your life-whatever it is you want to be!"

"I was determined to finish my studies and be something better!"

"It does get to the point where you have to decide who your family is and who you want to hang around."

"You can choose your family, you can choose who you want to hang around with."

"If you hang around with people who don't want to take action, who are going to suck the life out of you and deplete you, then you aren't going to strive, you won't be able to achieve those goals."

"At the end of the day, you have to look after you."

Some of Salena's Favorite Things:

Personal habit: "Constantly striving to succeed. A desire to just be better, bigger, more. I have to get outside every single day, get out with the dog at least once."

Easy meal: "Tacos. 5 batches and freeze them."

Favorite kitchen gadget: "Kettle, slow cooker, and food processor."

Salena's Favorite Books: "The Dip by Seth Godin"

Best advice received: "You can do it."

Salena's Happiness Formula:

Family + Home + Laughter + Challenge

A Challenge from Salena:

"Go and evaluate your relationships and see if you have those vampire people. Who energizes you and who depletes you? What can you do about the depleters?"

After trying the stay-at-home mom thing for a while, Dana realized she literally NEEDED to be an entrepreneur and thus began the Boss Mom movement. Learn how Dana balances motherhood and her online business with confidence and efficiency.

Dana Malstaff is a mother, author, business & content strategist, coach, podcaster, and blind spot reducer. Dana is the author of Boss Mom: The Ultimate Guide to Raising a Business & Nurturing Your Family Like a Pro, and the founder of Boss Mom. She serves Boss Moms who yearn for more time and less guilt when it comes to building their business and raising their family, by providing the tools they need to get more out of their content and business, without sacrificing their family goals.

vibranthappyfacebook

Nuggets of Wisdom from Dana:

"If you want to be a true influencer, then you should speak to create other influencers. Our influence is based around creating other influencers."

"Good mom for me means playfulness and attentiveness."

"So attentiveness to me means that I'm outwardly always trying to make sure I see what my kids need and trying to fulfill that in a way that makes sense to us in our family. "

"I think you should always try to be something more than a mom."

"You are so much more than one role, and we should strive to figure out what fulfills us outside of being a parent and outside of being a wife and outside of just being a business owner."

"It's a really important lesson for your kids to learn and it's a really important lesson for you to learn that your kids aren't the center of the world too, cause it's hard not to feel that way about them sometimes."

"When you're confident about your decisions, then guilt has no place in your life."

"The reason we feel guilty is because we're not sure we're doing the right thing."

"There are a lot of ways, and a lot of those ways compiled together equal the right way for you. It has to be about collecting the puzzle pieces and fitting them together and being confident about how you're fitting them together."

"If you don't wan't to feel guilty then continually assess every single day what your overall priorities are. What is it that you're trying to achieve, and what are the big things that have to be done? Don't do your business and family separately because those are two big whole buckets."

"What's important to us right now, tomorrow, over this next 30 days, or next year? What do we care about? Which one is more important? Sometimes my business wins, and sometimes my family wins. I don't feel bad about it."

Some of Dana's Favorite Things:

Personal habit: "We eat, we hang out and play around. We engage with each other. We do some fun things with
my kids in the morning."

"The habit is the assessment of my priorities, looking at what has to get done, seeing if I can delegate that out and reminding myself that I'm losing money in my business by doing things myself all the time."

Easy meal: "Brown rice packets, chicken apple sausage, Thai peanut sauce, veggies."

Favorite kitchen gadget: "wine opener"

Danielle's Favorite Books: "The Five Love Languages" and "The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran" and "Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert"

Best advice received: "Business is people. Life is people. If you can't learn how to show people how they are loved and valued and connect with people with empathy and compassion, then you're going to be left feeling alone and sad."

Dana's Happiness Formula:

1. "Learn to recognize your happy moments."
2. "Know that others see you differently and that you're often too hard on yourself. Listen to people that tell you nice things."
3. "Recognize when you're not happy and take an assessment on what's not working and tweak it. Don't sit in unhappiness and fester there for a long time. It doesn't help anybody."

A Challenge from Dana:

"I want you to take the next three days and time map what you do in your day, where you spend your time. At the end of those 3 days, look at that time mapping. Look at what you are doing, where you are spending your time, whether you are spending your time doing things that make you happy and fulfill you and that you think are actually helping you get to where you want to go in your life - and the amount of time you are spending doing things that do not fulfill you and actually empty your cup. Get really serious about finding the kind of support you need through this community, through other communities, you know, through your friends and your networks. To pull yourself more into the time you are spending, doing the things that fill you and that you love, and it all starts by assessing what you are doing right now."

Best-selling author Danielle LaPorte shares why it's critical to exercise self compassion, self love and self respect as you walk your spiritual path and how we can deepen our devotion and service in this world when we do so.

Danielle LaPorte is an invited member of Oprah’s Super Soul 100, a group who, in Oprah Winfrey’s words, “is uniquely connecting the world together with a spiritual energy that matters.” She is author of White Hot Truth: Clarity for Keeping It Real on Your Spiritual Path—From One Seeker to Another, The Fire Starter Sessions and The Desire Map: A Guide To Creating Goals With Soul—the book that has been translated into 8 languages, evolved into a yearly day planner system, a top 10 iTunes app, and an international workshop program with licensed facilitators in 15 countries. Millions of visitors go to DanielleLaPorte.com every month for her daily #Truthbombs and what’s been called “the best place online for spirituality.” Danielle is a speaker, a poet, and a painter. In her spare time she is trying to perfect kale chips and hanging out with friends and traveling. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia with her favorite philosopher, her son.

vibranthappyfacebook

Nuggets of Wisdom from Danielle:

"Your true nature is luminous."

"You're the guru. Few and external directions are good but the final say is with you."

"Happiness is feeling compassion for myself and compassion for other people."

"I don't spend a lot of time thinking what I could've done differently."

"This is all about being discerning, and getting to a place of real self love and self-respect."

"Deepen your devotion in everything you want."

"Self-love as a concept is really difficult for people to wrap their heads around."

"The term love, the idea, the notion of philosophy - it's so misused, overused, abused and misunderstood."

"Compassion is a lot easier for people to wrap their heads around. It's about loving what you want to criticize, and loving yourself when you feel you're most unlovable, and that is when self-love becomes the medicine."

"Boundaries are essential to being happy and vibrant and well."

"Find what works for you! If you don't like it find another way! Just experiment, just like food."

"You must have stillness in your life to be your most powerful self."

Some of Danielle's Favorite Things:

Personal habit: "I meditate everyday."

Easy meal: "Vegetarian tacos, cauliflower mash."

Favorite kitchen gadget: "Vitamix"

Dana's Favorite Books: "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life Book by Twyla Tharp" and "Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap...and Others Don't by Jim Collins"

Best advice received: "It's not my responsibility to make them feel good."

Danielle's Happiness Formula:

  1. "meditate"
  2. "obsessively text my girlfriends"
  3. "just be with my kid, no phone, and have a conversation"

A Challenge from Danielle:

"My invitation would be to do a list for yourself of all the things that you're doing, to be better, to improve... and stop doing one of those things. Stop doing that one thing that isn't lighting you up, that isn't really getting you results of freedom and joy and vitality."

Nuggets of Wisdom from Kate:

"The risk is a game so I may as well just play it."

"We have a huge capacity for change, a huge capacity for love and a huge capacity to evolve."'

"It took my courage to skip stepping through that door on a moment to moment basis"

"The biggest thing that I've learned is that it's okay to feel like a total human being while you're also being extraordinary."

"When we go through changes, in that process we also have to allow space for the wobbles of those changes."

"We can just ride out all of the feelings that come with being human while we keep growing and expanding and remember to enjoy life."

"When we come back together we've got new growth, new eyes and energy to infuse that with our relationship."

"A lot of times in the world, we're trying to get rid of the things that aren't feeling good."

"[I like to remind] all people that it's okay to be human, it's okay to have all of these experiences, and it has absolutely zero reflection on how amazing you are or what you are up to in the world."

"Have compassion for ourselves, and we can usually shift out of that away more faster."

"We are the solution. It is not the strategy."

Some of Kate's Favorite Things:

Personal habit: "Connecting into myself. And a cup of tea."

Easy meal: Smoothies, protein powder.

Favorite kitchen gadget: Blender.

Kate's Favorite Books:  Spiritual Partnership: The Journey to Authentic Power by Gary Zukav

Best advice received: "Be yourself!"

Kate's Happiness Formula:

"Passion +truth + commitment."

A Challenge from Kate:

"After this [interview], please stop, close your computer or your phone. Go and walk into a bathroom and look into the mirror. And when you are looking into the mirror, just notice what's in your head. Do you feel really comfortable and friendly with that beautiful person in there? Or do you feel a bit awkward? Or do you feel resistant, judgmental. Do you feel guilty? Whatever comes up, if it doesn't feel loving, that is the place you go to, to bring the love. "

Do you have a relationship that seems more challenging than the others? Maybe it's with a parent or a child, or with a coworker or a neighbor. In this Happy Bit you'll learn 3 easy tips to help you improve that challenging relationship.

This episode is brought to you by Audible and you can get a FREE audio book using my special link: vibranthappybook.com. It's time to make all that summertime driving a little more entertaining.

The 3 easy tips to improve a challenging relationship:

  1. Write down 10 positives about that person.
  2. Do something kind for them every day. We love those whom we serve.
  3. Say something kind to or about that person every day.

Doing these things will help you brain shift into a place of positivity. Like attracts like. When you focus on the positive, your brain will find more of the positive. This happens because of your brain's Reticular Activating System, which filters information in a way to help you support what you believe. If you start to see the positive, your brain will give you more evidence of positivity. You have the power to make any relationship better. Empowering, right? You bet. That's what the Vibrant Happy Women movement is all about.

Want to hear even more about kindness? Listen to my interview with Shaunti Feldhahn.

Nuggets of Wisdom from Tammy:

"Dom Perignon: Come quickly, I am tasting the stars."

"Happy accidents can happen at anytime and just to be ready for them, to be excited and curious about life because you just never know when something amazing is going to happen."

"I am a really curious person. I love learning... And so I just love life and being curious and being hopeful  for whatever is to come."

"I realized at that time, I didn't know how to ask for help. Being a mother of 3 young children was not something that was modeled for me. I mean, my parents were working and I am an only child, and things were very quiet and organized, and I didn't have any relatives around me, to just kind of see what that looked like until a friend of mine, she is a few years behind me and having kids but once she started having her babies, I watched her really organize her life and asked for help when she needed it. So she got on care.com and got herself a house cleaner and a really good baby sitter, but not just one but a couple when that one didn't meet the time. She'd catch her date night with her husband. And so, I was looking at that and said, 'Wow, I just didn't ask for help.' I didn't recognize that I just really needed the help, but I do not know if it was ego or just not having you know the modeling for myself. I just didn't really know how to go about it."

"So, I think that it is really important that we have the confidence to actually create the things that we love and maximize that time, but there is nothing wrong with profiting from that stuff and actually starting you know a small business, a side business, whatever it is to you, be yourself. You know, give that time back to yourself. I mean, we give our time to our kids and our family, we volunteer, we are out and about. But to really sit and be creative, or to start something new just for yourself is pretty awesome."

"Recently, I have discovered that I really need to set boundaries around myself, and the boundaries are going to help me get more respect for my family and myself, respect in myself. And also confidence to charge what I work and to follow through with those boundaries."

Some of Tammy's Favorite Things:

Personal habit: "I love learning. So, I read a lot of books, a lot of blog articles. I take a lot of online courses. I just really love learning new things and learning how to apply them in my own life and then teaching them to other people."

Easy meal: "Quinoa salad. Quinoa grains that you cook really simply and then you ad red wine vinegar, like a little vinaigrette to it. And then you can corn sometimes, red onions, you just add in your veggies and then let it sit in the refrigerator. It is great for potluck, for just a side salad, for everything."

Favorite kitchen gadget: "Coffee grinder"

Tammy's Favorite Books:  "Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss" and "Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty"

Best advice received: "That is the way it should be. We go through life not recognizing that we just need to dream big and go after it."

Tammy's Happiness Formula:

"Really just sitting down and breaking bread with friends and family is super huge to me. Combine that with learning something new. And a sunny day. And I am the happiest girl in the world."

A Challenge from Tammy:

"I would love for your listeners to download that freebie (5 Steps to a Growth Mindset) and fill it out and over the next 30, 60 or 90 days, pick one big hairy goal, one over-arching goal that you are trying to achieve. Fill out the worksheet and let us know what happened. I think that you are going to be surprised at how the worksheet's going to help. And when you focus on just one thing, over that time frame, you are going to see big things happen."
